Question 1

How do I install this mod?  I really want to play it!

Question 2

My pegasus (or unicorn, destrier, nighter, or crossbreed) won't let me mount him when I right click on him.  What can I do?

Answer 2

I've sometimes had problems mounting a horse (or unicorn or pegasus, etc) right after summoning or breeding, because it is not full grown. Unfortunately, in Minecraft 1.8, the young horses look a LOT like adult horses, just a little smaller.

Try feeding the pegasus some apples (golden apples are best), and try again. Feeding him a bunch of golden apples is even better, sine he'll like you more, and be easier to tame (and thus less likely to dump you from a great height while you are trying to tame him).


Question 3

Since installing your mod, my jump button does not work.  How do I fix it?

Answer 3

This is caused by a bug in an earlier version of the mod that changed a configuration setting. Because the configuration setting was changed, the problem can still happen after you have updated to the latest version.  Thankfully, it is easy to fix.

To fix this problem, first make sure you have the latest version of the Ultimate Unicorn mod.  Then, after starting Minecraft, click on the "Options..." button to bring up the options screen.  Next, click on the "Controls" button.  Scroll down until you see the "key.ascendPegasus" key binding.  Set it to a free key that is not the same as the Jump key! Personally, I like to use the 'V' key, but you're free to use whatever key you like.


Question 4

I just ordered a custom unicorn, but you didn't send me anything!  How do I get it?

I try to generate new custom horses as soon as I can after they are created. Usually this happens by the next day, but sometimes it takes a couple of days.  Once I have created the unicorn, the game will be able to download it automatically. To get Minecraft to do that, you can name your horse using a name tag and an anvil, and he will get your custom skin and powers! Another option is to name the horse using the /changeHorse command.

Your custom unicorn will be in all future updates.

How do I talk to unicorns and other magical horses?

Answer 6


You'll want to get started by talking to the custom unicorn named Adrian. You can use a name tag to give a unicorn (or other magical horse) a name. You can also use the /changeHorse command to do it. When you name him, his skin should change color.

Once you have Adrian in your game, tame him and mount him, and then go into the inventory screen. There, on the upper left side, you should see a "Talk" button. Click that button and you're good to go.

    1. This is probably happening because of a conflict with another mod. I would recommend you try the mod out by itself, and see if it works. If it does, there is another mod that is probably making Minecraft look for the mob textures in the wrong place.

      After you see that it works, you can then try to add in mods until you find the one that is conflicting. I would much appreciate it if you post the name of any mod that is causing problems with the Ultimate Unicorn mod!

    2. Not the same commenter, but it does work without other mods. One specific problem, however (and I'm uncertain if it matters much in helping ferret out the problem), is that only the person running the server is unable to see the horses. Anyone else on the server can see them.

  3. So Iv downloaded the mod but when I try to summon something it can't summon the item. Also none of then extra stuff shows up in my innovatory. Help!?

    1. Have you tried running Minecraft with just this mod? It could be that it is conflicting with another mod you have.

      If you know how, you could create a profile that points to a different directory with only this mod installed. I've found that to be helpful if I don't want to mess with all the other mods I have installed in my main profile. (I should put up instructions on how to do this).

  4. I get a blank screen when I try to use this mod. I've tried all of the variations for forge versions . I get the game music, but black screen? Does anyone have insight on this?

    1. Hmm. What versions of Minecraft, Forge, and the mod are you running? Does Minecraft pop up a message indicating where things went wrong? If I could see that, it would be very helpful for determining where the problem is.

      I'm not a programmer, so I may be on the wrong track, but I've found something potentially useful. I can either paste or send a copy of the "latest.log" from my server, but the line with the exception listing includes the following:

      Encountered an unexpected exception
      net.minecraft.util.ReportedException: Exception ticking world

      (Bunch of "at" lines lacking "caused by" sections, then)

      net.minecraft.server.MinecraftServer.run(MinecraftServer.java:467) [MinecraftServer.class:?]
      at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source) [?:1.8.0_91]
      Caused by: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/mojang/realmsclient/gui/ChatFormatting

      Again, I'm not a programmer, but is this a missing dependecy regarding the "realmsclient" data? Since I'm not running my server on Realms, maybe that's causing issues? Also, to be fair, it's my first Forge server. Still figuring things out.

  6. Is it possible run this mod on a dedicated server (for Lan play) I've tried it on a 1.9 forge server but the only things that show up are the items and i cannot spawn unicorns etc.

    1. Yes, you can. There was a bug that was preventing a server from working correctly with the mod, but that should be fixed now. Let me know if it still doesn't work with the latest version of the mod.

    2. I have this same server problem. Works great in single player mode. Mod loads on server just fine, then when you try to spawn a unicorn, the egg is grey and nothing happens. So sad... such a super cool mod.

  8. There seems to be some weird log spam when using this mod with Journeymap, something about "Invalid UUID String: Skeleton". It appears to happen when Journeymap is trying to get the icons for the horses.

  10. How can I adjust the spawn rate, they are begginning to impact my animal farm such as sheep, cows, mob grinder etc. because horse just spawn everywhere

  11. For some reason my MC server crashes any time I use version 1.5.10 for 1.10.2. I ran it with and without other mods. The crash report is here: http://pastebin.com/8WZbnc9i. Any ideas?

  12. I tried to spawn with the eggs the different mobs of this but I can't... As a clue when I create the world i dissable natural spawing of this mobs and now I have changed it

    1. I made some changes to the mob registration to "do registration the right way" and make this mod work better with other mods and not have conflicts. However, that screwed up egg spawns. I tried to fix this, but this seems to cause other egg-related problems with earlier versions of minecraft. I'll have to revisit this fix. Until I do, egg spawning doesn't work the best, especially if you are running on a server. Sorry about that! :(

  13. I can't seem to put a chest on any of the magical horses. I tried right clicking them on, and shift clicking them on but the chest gets used up and no slots open. I use version 1.5.8 for mc 1.10.2.

  14. We just ordered and paid for a custom skin. My daughter is thrilled but we don't see any wings. We selected the color and such. What are we missing?

    1. Did the horse you applied the custom skin to already have wings when you did it? If not, try adding the custom skin to a horse that has large or tiny wings - the custom skin doesn't add wings to the horse model.

  15. Hi there, I love this mod, but seem to be having some issues along with it. It crashes whenever I explore new chunks, and I cannot get on my worlds further more unless I remove the mod. I have multiple mods running, and have the same problem when using the mod by itself. I would love to hear back from you on this.

I have found that this has a problem with Fossils and Archeology Revival, and The Aether 2 Mod, whenever the three are used together, under the circumstance of mining fossils while one of the Unicorns is near, it crashes the game. I will let you know if I find any issues unrelated to other mods. Thanks for your time!

    3. Hey, thanks for doing the detective work and figuring out which mods were conflicting with the Ultimate Unicorn Mod. This is not always an easy thing to do. :) I can't guarantee that I'll get a fix for this conflict, but I'll try to take a look.

    5. My bad, it seems since then crashing is uncommon, but still a problem until the Aether is removed and placed back in the mods folder after loading up the game. I don't expect this to be fixed, but thought I would share the further issues. Other than that, this mod is a must have for anyone looking to spice up their Minecraft experience.

    I notices that in 1.8 the Unicorn mod interferes with the horse spawn.
    To check this please use seed:

    This is a horse seed. Use it without the unicorn mod and you get masses of horse near the spawn. Use it with the unicorn mod and you get sheep instead of horses.

  21. In 1.11 the Unicorn Mod does not anymore interferes with the horse spawn. Use seed -4968474061163288806.

    The only mod installed to test this have been, Journey Map, Not Enough Items and the Unicorn Mod.

  23. What is the minimum spawn rate you can have for magical horses in the config? I want to add this mod to an adventure pack for a server, but I don't want people to be able to acquire these guys too easily - I want them to be super special.

    1. The minimum setting right now is 1. The way Minecraft decides how often to spawn random creatures works a little strangely in some biomes, so keep that in mind - if you are still getting more than you want with 1, then you can turn off the kinds that show up too often completely by setting it to 0 instead.

Hey, not sure if this helps anyone any, but just thought I should mention that I had an error a while ago where I couldn't use the spawn eggs in anyway, shape or form, even though most everything else in the mod worked. I managed to fix it, and it turned out that it was in conflict with another API that I used for a different mod. Not sure if you've fixed the conflict in future versions (I use 1.7.10 latest download), or plan to, but just for your and everyone else's info, this mod doesn't work with the SAPManPack API, so if you're having errors of some kind, that might be the reason.

    2. No worries - like I said, I fixed it without too much hassle, and I didn't have anything important that I was using that API for anyway. I just thought, since this was the troubleshooting page that it would be helpful for other people to know in case they do have that problem. BTW, quick question for you - the Asmidiske horse? Is it supposed to be breedable with the other horses yet? I can't seem to breed it with anything, even though all the other horses work together. Is that an error, or just something you're still working on?

    3. Asmidiske is not breedable at the current time, and that's intentional. I created Asmidiske as a commission, and to lower the cost, we decided to make Asmidiske unable to breed. Asmidiske has body parts that other magical horses don't have, and by restricting breeding, I didn't have to go and update all of the textures with the new body parts.

      It's possible that Asmidiske will someday be able to breed. If it happens, it will most likely happen after I add hippogryphs and gryphons (since they have some of the same new body parts).

  28. So just a question; was it intended for the magic horses to have donkey sounds? Or is that possibly just me? It's just a little odd to me, haha. So far enjoying the mod but it throws me off when I go to mount and they.. hee-haw.

    1. Donkey sounds? Hmm. Maybe that's something that happened in a new Minecraft version (which MC version are you using?), since the underlying horse code was restructured such that normal horses can no longer have chests on them - only donkeys and mules get that. Since I wanted magical horses to still get that functionality, I had to restructure things a bit. Maybe I accidentally got the donkey sounds to go with it.

      I will try to get this fixed by the next release. Thanks for reporting it!

    2. I'm playing on 1.12.2 so it very well could be. I play with it in a server but I did test it in a singular world and still get the donkey sounds, haha.

  33. When magical horse dies only common loot drops (like pegasus feather etc). All equipped items just disappear. Is that intended behavior?

  34. Version 1.12.2 here. Whenever I try to feed one of the mod's creatures (hay and apples), they just give me a grumpy neigh. I initially thought it might be an issue with one of my other mods (on forge version 14.23.1.2604, I play with Animania and Hunger Overhaul, among others), but on a newly-made version with JUST this mod and the latest forge update (14.23.2.2619) they still refuse to be fed, which leads me to believe it's a Forge issue. Should I downgrade my forge, and if so, to which install version? I really want to be able to breed!

    1. I believe it does work - you just need to use the entire name, for example: /summon ultimate_unicorn:unicorn .

      To make this easier, you can type "/summon un" and then push the tab button. the "ultimate_unicorn:" part should autocomplete. You can also type "/summon unicorn" and hit tab, and that should also autocomplete to the right thing. Let me know if this doesn't work!

  37. I am trying to go on the power settings so the unicorn won't produce fire or flowers or be able to hurt animals. Every time I try going on the power settings, it kicks me right out and I don't even see it.

  40. hi im using1.12.2 version. i can spawn horses in creative but they dont spawn at all in the wild on their owm. also i the texture for spirit tree doesnt load. i revomes mo creatures and animania but nothing changed. i dont have any other animal mods becise ultimate unicorn.

  45. Hello. Love the mod.

    2 Questions-

    I am playing on a friends server with minecraft 1.12 and Have bred special horses with the tag Magic (in white), and now a Celestial tag (in Orange) in front of the name of the horse.
    The Celestials have the tag in orange and the name in light blue. but when renamed with a minecraft tag it defaults to regular white names.

    Do Magical and Celestial have any qualities?
    Also in the breeding process the Celestial is called a Seahorse despite not being able to swim with us on it.

  46. Unable to mount any of the horses, it worked when i first started playing but now just spins my camera to face elsewhere and does not mount it. Iv'e spammed golden apples etc but nothing works. Playing the World Of Dragons Modpack. Posted on the bitbucket but no response, any suggestions?

    1. I don't think so, unfortunately. I don't think you can do it with regular horses, either, and to be honest I haven't even thought about it. Go add it as a feature request on the bitbucket link above, and I'll look into adding it.

  50. My friend has this mod in a server but can not find a spirit tree or an oracle, I searched for them in creative as well and found nothing. Are they still part of the mod?

    1. I don't yet have those in the 1.15.2 release. I am working on the Oracle now, and hope to have it in the next release in a few days. I was trying to decide whether to keep the Spirit Tree - it's a cool idea, but not central to the mod. Do you like the Spirit Tree?

  51. Hi! i just discovered this mod and am super excited! I love unicorns and when i saw "ultimate unicorn mod" i downloaded it without question. I am having problem with anything BESIDES the unicorns/mobs from this mod spawning. It's very rare if not impossible to find other mobs like chickens, cows, pigs, llamas ect.

    I am playing with the new 1.16.4-1.5.17 version that was just put out on cursed forge (but not here for some reason.)

    I at first thought it was a mod conflict (maybe with bioms o' plenty) so i tried just the mod solely and still encountered the problem. i couldn't config the mod in game/launcher so i edited the .tmol file, and even when changing all the spawn rate chance to 1 (of 500 max) and a single type of unicorn to .0001 I've discovered it seems to simply change the ratios but not the actual spawn chance. the mod mobs are still spawning VERY densely and it seems pushing out normal mobs. Is there a fix for this?

  52. I might be blind, but i cant find anywhere that says whether the obsidian armor or the emerald is better. Can you tell me how much they will protect my horses, and how that compares to a diamond one?

  53. Hi I administer a heavily modded server. The owner really wants this mod, as well as the mineconalies mod pack. We are running on 1.16.4 do you know of any particular incompatiblity with these mods? As during the initial launch after extensive testing the server crashed (unfortunately I don't have the logs to hand) and as soon as I removed the ultimate unicorn mod it has been working with no problems.
    I would really like to get this resolved as the unicorns mod pack has had a lot of exposure

  55. Heya! I finally got back into this mod and bred my perfect horse! It's a blue belle with a kirin model, unicorn horn, wings, antlers, kirin tail, and normal size. I got the DNA but I'm not sure how to translate it into a cheat code to spawn them into my main world. How can I do this?

    2. Right now, you should get close to your magical horse, or ride it. Once you are sufficiently close, put in the command: /data get entity @e[limit=1,sort=nearest]

      That command will give you the data of your horse, and the cheat code is the number in the "Dna1" property and the number in the "Dna2" property. You can use those as the first and second arguments to the /changeHorse command. Let me know if this is not clear, or you need further instructions!

      I'd like to add a command that will help you get that info in an easier way, but I haven't had the time as of late.

    4. Hi - thanks for coming by! You'll want to get started by talking to the custom unicorn named Adrian. You can use a name tag to give a unicorn (or other magical horse) a name. You can also use the /changeHorse command to do it. When you name him, his skin should change color.

      Once you have Adrian in your game, tame him and mount him, and then go into the inventory screen. There, on the upper left side, you should see a "Talk" button. Click that button and you're good to go.

  56. This is for a likely unsupported version of the mod but I figured id share anyways. This mod seems to not work at all with Lotr 1.7.10. All the mounts added can spawn and move on their own but once tamed you cannot ride/fly/jump while mounted on them. Figure that since its a legacy version it doesn't matter but figured id point it out since 1.7.10 is still somewhat popular in certain communities.
