Jousting

Jousting and lances were introduced in the 1.2.0 update.

Lances On Foot

You can use a lance while on foot, but it does a lot more for you if you are riding a horse.  You can attack with a lance as normal with the left mouse button, but this is not the best way to use it.

Charge!

While riding a horse, when you charge your equipped lance will automatically hit anything in your path (unless it is a horse - see below).

Lances will not hit horses unless you are holding down the right mouse button.  This is a safeguard, as the goal of jousting is to hit your opponent, not his steed!  However, if you're the kind of person who likes to stab horses, holding down that right mouse button will let you do it.

Types of Lances

Lances can be made out of wood, iron, gold, and diamond.  Sorry, nobody jousts with a stone lance, it's just too clunky.

There are five different types of lance you can make:

Normal Lance - This is your normal, everyday commoner's lance (some disparagingly refer to it as a "scrub" lance).  There's nothing special about it, except that it's the easiest to craft, and it performs OK (but not great) against all other types of lances.

King's Lance - Crafted from a normal lance and a King's Emblem, this lance is particularly good at unhorsing an opponent wielding a Priestess's Lance, since she is his subordinate. The King's Lance is evenly matched against the Queen's Lance (since they are married, and equals, and all).  The King's Lance is weak against the Knight's Lance, as the Knight bears little allegiance to him, and is the better jouster.

Queen's Lance - Crafted from a normal lance and a Queen's Emblem, this lance is particularly good at unhorsing an opponent wielding a Knight's Lance, since he is her subordinate. The Queen's Lance is evenly matched against the King's Lance (since they are married, and equals, and all).  The Queen's Lance is weak against the Priestess's Lance, as the Priestess bears little allegiance to her, and is the better jouster.

Knight's Lance - Crafted from a normal lance and a Knight's Emblem, this lance is particular good at unhorsing an opponent wielding a King's Lance.  The Knight's duty is to the Queen, not the King, and he is by far the more skillful jouster.  The Knight's Lance is weak against the Queen's Lance, as he is her humble servant.

Priestess's Lance - Crafted from a normal lance and a Priestess Emblem, this lance is particular good at unhorsing an opponent wielding a Queen's Lance.  The Priestess's duty is to the King, not the Queen, and she is by far the more skillful jouster.  The Priestess Lance is weak against the King's Lance, as she is his humble servant.

Fool's Lance - Coming Soon.

Lance Recipes

Iron Lance:

Lances of other materials are crafted in a similar fashion (Wood uses wooden planks, Gold uses gold ingots, and Diamond uses diamonds).

Emblems

Special lances are crafted using a normal lance and an emblem of the type of lance you want.  For instance, to craft a King's Lance, you need a lance and a King's Emblem.
