Reindeer are Here (new Version, 1.5.8)!

I released version 1.5.8 yesterday afternoon, which includes the new Reindeer breed, as well as some bug fixes and extra configuration options.  See the list of changes here.  Download it here.

Reindeer spawn naturally in some cold and forest biomes.  They can be tamed like horses, and if you name one after one of Santa's reindeer, it will gain the ability to fly.  Its flying behavior is like that of a Nightmare - run fast and jump, and you'll be running on air.  Once airborne, you can jump again to fly higher.  However, due to their lack of flight maneuverability, if you turn too fast, your reindeer will float to the ground.

Reindeer can breed with all other types of magical horses.  Baby reindeer are very cute.

    1. Thank you! Yes, you will be able to keep them. :) I think they add a fun aspect to the mod, and they're not *too* Christmas specific. I could add a config option to disable them during non-Christmas times, but I don't see the need for one, unless people start asking for it.

  2. The spawn eggs are gone! Everything such as armors and wands are still there but the eggs are gone from the inventory!

This is a side effect of switching from global ids to local ids in the code, and I'll have to work on a solution if we want spawn eggs back in versions earlier than 1.10, since the old forge code doesn't work nicely with local ids and spawn eggs. You can still use the summon command - let me know if the spawn eggs are important to you.

  3. Can you please add a reindeer spawn egg in? The summon commmand never works for me and it's easier to go and grab the egg instead of trying for 3 hours to summon one in! Thx!

    1. I will look into this. It should be easy in 1.10, but harder in earlier versions (due to some changes to how entities are registered) - what version of Minecraft and the mod are you using? /summon Reindeer doesn't work?

  4. Would it be possible to have miniature versions of all the horses? Except for Destriers, they would only be the size of the regular horses. It would a recessive gene, though, and to be smaller than normal size they would need like mm or something. Just a thought. :)

    1. That's a neat idea, and probably wouldn't be too hard to do. I'll have to think about how I'd do it, but I'll definitely take it under consideration.

  5. I have a large problem? Since installing one of the updates (not sure which), every magical horse has since vanished from all of my existing worlds. Not just my tamed ones, either, but all of the wild ones, too. I haven't attempted to enter the world I created to breed every possible combination of magical horse out of fear, so I need to know if there's a way to get them back. At least reset the spawn of magical horses for my other worlds?

  6. Also, my pegusi aren't taking off for me. They'll dive and wing buffet fine, but... And I checked, there's no control conflicts.
