Kirin Development Progress

Kirin development is moving along nicely.  I estimate that the new Kirin magical horse breed is about 50-60% complete.  New Kirin DNA code is in place, as well as some new refactoring to improve how the DNA code works in general.  I'm most of the way through the model development, though there are some things I need to change, and a few visual features still to add.

Crafting the model and getting it just right is probably the hardest part to developing a new mob.  I debated posting a screenshot of what the Kirin currently looks like, but I thought you'd like to see it, even if it's unfinished.  Now, please keep in mind that this model is unfinished, and also that this guy is still wearing the unicorn texture, with unfinished pieces for the antlers and beard (he will get his own texture, and his beard won't look like it came from a wooden chest).

Here is a unicorn pic for comparison:

As you can see, the kirin looks kind of deer-like at the moment.  Even though you can't see it well in this pic, his tail is pretty much done, and I'm happy with it.

As with all other magical horses, the kirin can have children with other breeds, and make babies that share traits from both parents.  This will lead to all sorts of interesting cross-breed possibilities, as well as a new Ultimate Unicorn with a special texture.

  2. Antlers, a new body type (which is not really that obvious yet in the screenshot), long tail, magic powers.

    1. Thank you! I've made more progress since this screenshot, and plan to post another one in the next few days. Its look has evolved some, and I think it's coming along nicely. I'm looking forward to seeing people's reactions.

  5. Any plans for a 1.9.4 version? I've gotten used to companions who can help me against mobs in older versions :D

    1. Yes, I plan to put out a release for the 1.9.4 version. Hopefully it is not that big of a change from 1.9, so it won't take too much effort!

I just need to figure out if I am going to finish up the kirin first, or get out 1.9.4. I'll probably do the kirin, unless a lot of people prefer I get 1.9.4 done first.

  6. Just an FYI... The Forgecraft 1 server started their 1.9.4 server about a week ago. Mojang released MCP for 1.10 earlier this week, with the help of the Forge crew. Long story short, an awful lot of mods, including Forge, are working with 1.10 now, so well that the Forgecraft 1 server updated to 1.10 today using the same 1.9.4 mods it started with.

I'm looking forward to the next release.

    1. Hey, thanks for the update! I really appreciate this info. I saw that 1.10 dropped a short while ago, really soon after 1.9.4. I didn't expect Forge to come out so soon for 1.10.

I'll definitely be updating the Ultimate Unicorn mod to 1.10 soon. I'm debating whether to port it to 1.9.4 as well.

I currently support 4 different versions of the mod and keep them up-to-date (1.7.10, 1.8, 1.8.9, and 1.9). It's getting to be a lot of work to keep them all up-to-date, though, so I might drop some of the lesser-downloaded versions (like 1.8) when I put out new versions.
